The Album That Established The Trash Metal Genre: Metallica's Ride The Lightning Album

 



Ride The Lightning is the sophomore recording from Metallica. The album was release under the Megaforce Label and was released on the 27th of July 1984. The album was recorded for almost a month at Sweet Silence Studios under the scrutiny of producer Flemming Ramussen. Ride The Lightning is vast improvement from the bands first recording Kill "Em All in terms of sound and song writing. For this album, the band employs complex harmonies, extended jam and instrumentations. It is also the album where guitarist Kirk Hammett contributed on the majority of the songs. 


Ride The Lightning has gained the nod of critics. The band went on to promote the album on their 1984 and 1985 concert tour. Elektra Records signed Metallica and re-released the album. With no radio support and exposure, Ride The Lightning reached 100th on the Billboard 200. By the last quarter of 1987, Ride The Lightning have sold 500,000 copies. Later on in 2012, Ride The Lightning have been certified 6x Platinum having sold six million copies in the US. Ride The Lightning helped established the trash metal genre among metal fanatics.
